Located in a small hamlet, in the beautiful rural setting of the Serra da Lousã, Central Portugal. It is ideal for those that want to get away and experience some of the true character and beauty that this country has to offer. The surrounding countryside is a mixture of pine and scented eucalyptus forests, which cover the hills and mountains in a carpet of green. Rivers wind through the valleys which provide swimming from the Praia fluvial (river beaches)in the summer, fishing and other water sports. Attractive villages and towns enable visitors to experience rural Portuguese life and the local cuisine. There are plenty of opportunities to exercise, both on foot and bicycle along the numerous cross country tracks. A five minute drive to the NW is the village of Serpins, which has a few bars, small local supermarket, post office and pharmacy. There is a railway station with regular trains to Coimbra via Lousã and Miranda do Corvo. The line winds it’s way through beautiful countryside and villages all the way to Coimbra, and takes about an hour.
Casa das Pedras Grandes is an old Portuguese dwelling built with local stone. It has been recently renovated and modernized mixing traditional crafts and design with modern materials and technology, to make a comfortable and attractive home. For the comfort of our “off season” guests we have wood fired central heating, with radiators in all rooms. The guest accommodation comprises of a large ground floor double bedroom with en-suite and a large first floor double bedroom with balcony and private bathroom. There is also a comfortable guest lounge and dining area.
Lousã, the nearest town, is a 15 minute drive to the SW and has all the facilities you would expect, including restaurants, bars, shops, two good size supermarkets, banks and medical centre etc. Porto airport is approximately two hours to the north by road. To the south Lisbon is two and a half hours and the Algarve around five. All have good road and rail links. The train service is punctual, clean and reasonably inexpensive. A journey to Porto airport takes about 3 hours.
